The game is set on Timber's Island and revolves around Diddy Kong and his friends' attempt to defeat the intergalactic antagonist, a wizarding pig named Wizpig, through winning a series of races. The player can take control of any of the featured characters throughout the game.
Diddy Kong Racing is truly a fantastic speedgame with a low barrier of entry, but also an incredibly high skill ceiling. At the core it is a racing game with incredibly rich mechanics that I'm sure you will have fun mastering. If you're looking for a speedrun with a little more than mechanics, DKR has much more to offer. Each of the three main speedrun categories have varying levels of RNG and glitches which means that however you prefer the balance, DKR has category that is likely right for you.
100% (or Adventure Mode 100%) completes all of Adventure 1. It is the longest main category averaging at around 2 hours in length. RNG can play a factor, although a completed run is not reliant on luck. Similarly, there are many glitches in the run, but none are required to completing a 100% run.
Any% requires that you beat Wizpig in the Future Fun Land stage as quick as possible. It is a relatively shorter category (averaging around 1 hour), however, glitches and RNG may be heavier (route pending).
All Trophy Races is exactly what the title suggests; complete all 5 trophies in tracks mode. It is the shortest and most mechanic focused main category. There is potential for RNG and glitches to impact the run, but are much more inconsequential compared to other categories. Easily the most beginner friendly category.
